I wonder what the odds are. Give the Vegas kids a call, they'll give you a line on anything.
Because entitlements are due to wipe everything out when those baby boomers retire. 'Bout 70 million of them I hear...By the way it isn't that there are so many of them, it's that there are so few of you. Check out the census data, demographics by increment it holds steady, used to be though that there were always bigger demographics coming up, for the boomers that isn't the case, people get this idea that there are so bloody many baby boomers, it's a misconception, they just didn't have enough kids, and not even the swarms slipping over the border made up for that...
Yeah so the entitlements...But this is old news, people have been crowing this from the hill forever...If the Federal Government were held to the same accounting standards we hold Wall Street to it would be considered bankrupt. The promises made to the future retirees will totally strip the economy. And this is with the pie in the sky growth forecasts that I for one don't buy, too bloody many rats in the barn to plan on eating that harvest through the winter. There wont be enough income, output, or people willing to loan money to support those promises. And you suggest cutting spending? Get rid of everything, including defense, and you're still in need of taxes of a level to stifle the great U.S. growth machine...Old news...
And it really shouldn't be such an ordeal. Simple policy question really. Raise the taxes lower the benefits to a sustainable level, simple. Oh and warn the young 'uns that Mom and Pop will be living with them for a long, long, time.
But here's the question, what do those 70 million voters do? That bunch of hungry for promises being kept 70 million retirees. And don't even think ALL, think about the majority, what do, say 40 million of them do? Do they opt to save the country and swallow the fact that it is a new world, and they just have to suck it up and stay with their kids, waiting for those miniscule checks to come in the mail, wondering what happened to all the digits in those 401Ks, dealing with the crappy medical care, like some forlorn Detroit auto worker waxing poetic about the days before the fat cats drove the companies in the ground and left the unions high and dry...Or do they vote for the hucksters and snake oil salesmen? Do they say, 'you promised me this, now figure out how to pay for it', and in the meantime let everything go down the toilet, education assistance, research grants, inspectors for the FDA, staff for the EPA, defense...everything...
Because if that happens, love, I want those Vegas kids to crack the code, deliver the message, lay the odds, will some U.S. lovin' patriot, no matter what kind of idiot they may be, step up and say that it's time to quit counting the votes of these greedy greys, time to quit letting the country be held hostage to unkeepable promises?
The end of democracy in the U.S. That's what I want to know. Would someone actually have the balls to screw up, or yeah let's be generous, save the country and put their name on the product, or would everyone just watch it go down...
Now you can say that we survived worse. A civil war, the great depression. O.K. now the civil war, you cant get worse that that, and if the North hadn't had the industrial base this wouldn't even be a question, just time for another bullet braided parade in U.S. history. The great depression? The Feds still had room for economic wiggle room there, with falling national income there's a lot of things you can do, but when nobody will loan you the cash anymore, when you spent way too much already and all you can do to fix it is strip growth, AND when the cause of that is one particular demographic, I think you're looking at a pretty hard road. That and we had some outstanding leadership back in the day, now we could sit here and chew over whether or not Mr. Roosevelt's policies actually did any good, but I'll tell you one thing he could make you feel like you were part of the family, and that the family cared what happened to you. I am not seeing that in this little crop of politicos. In other words have we ever had a group of voters so large and with such a vested interest in ruining the country? Look at the clout the AARP has now, magnify that ten fold and put its interests at odds with the survival of the nation and you have some idea of what I am talking about.
Ah well, give the Vegas folks a call, see what they say.
